Orthopedic Surgery

Your Pet's Surgery
Your pet's safety and comfort during surgery are very important to us. Before your pet's surgical procedure, we perform a complete physical examination and conduct a series of blood tests. The results of these tests help us develop a specific anesthetic protocol for your pet. All pets respond differently to anesthesia and pre-existing conditions may complicate your pet's reaction to anesthesia. Pre-surgical exams and screenings help ensure a high level of safety for your pet.
During surgery, your pet's vital signs are closely monitored using the latest surgical monitoring equipment. Your pet is kept warm throughout the procedure and a specially-trained veterinary technician is on hand to monitor your pet's condition.
Following surgery, your pet is given pain medication to reduce discomfort and help speed recovery. Pets feel pain just as we do, and so pain management is an important part of our intra- and post-operative procedures. Depending on the procedure, you may be given pain medication to take home for your pet. A veterinarian or staff member is available to answer any questions you may have about pain management.
Cancer Treatment
The word "cancer" strikes fear into us all. However, thanks to recent advances in veterinary medicine, many pets are able to recover from cancer and continue to lead long, healthy lives. Mayde Creek Animal Health Center provides limited chemotherapy treatments for pets. Chemotherapy is particularly effective for pets, and animals do not experience the same side effects as humans. Our veterinarians also perform surgical tumor removals. We refer more advanced cases to a local veterinary oncology specialist.
Chronic Disease Treatment
For some conditions, long-term management is necessary to keep your pet healthy. Mayde Creek Animal Health Center provides medical treatment for many chronic diseases, including:
- Diabetes
- Renal failure
- Cushing's Disease

- Many others
We work with you to develop a comprehensive treatment plan for your pet.
